Melis Alkin, PsyD, ABPP, FT

Dr. Melis Alkin, Psy.D, ABPP, FT (she/her) is a trilingual (English/French/Turkish) licensed, board-certified clinical psychologist licensed in California. She is a Fellow in Thanatology (Association for Death Education and Counseling) and has a M.A. degree in Bioethics.  Dr. Alkin specializes in vicarious trauma, moral distress, death, dying and bereavement from a trauma informed integrative and existential/humanistic perspective. She currently has a private practice in Redondo Beach, California and has worked as a consulting clinical psychologist for an organizations that provides training and therapy to humanitarian aid workers. 

Dr Alkin has worked in a variety of clinical and academic settings in the U.S., Turkey, and Canada. Her experiences range from founding and managing a mental health program for asylum seekers and refugees in Turkey, grant writing and program development for mental health projects, directing a counseling center, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in counseling and psychology, bioethics, supervising theses, providing clinical supervision and training, serving as a research ethics board member, and working as a clinical psychologist in private practice and other clinical settings. During certain periods of her professional work,  Dr. Alkin experienced moral distress, vicarious trauma and moral injury and burnout resulting from educational, organizational and political constraints and deep involvement in helping others who suffered man-made trauma.

Dr. Alkin uses her knowledge of moral psychology and principles, bioethics, loss/grief and existential themes of meaning-making and draws from existential/humanistic and integrative approaches which include cultural and spiritual personal lived-experiences in her consultations.

Huong Diep, PsyD, ABPP

Dr. Huong Diep (she/her) is a bilingual (English/Spanish) board-certified psychologist specializing in global mental health utilizing a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed model that promotes strength and resiliency. She graduated from UCLA and the University of Denver with an emphasis in International Disaster Psychology. Dr. Diep served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the rural mountains of Peru and has lived, worked, and traveled to over 50 countries. She is passionate about the intersectionality of trauma, language, and culture. After years of working with marginalized groups in community mental health and federally qualified health centers, Dr. Diep experienced the negative effects of moral distress, moral injury and burnout. She began her private practice and international consultation journey in 2018 to rediscover why she entered the field of psychology, and how she can heal herself first, before healing others. 

Dr. Diep uses her knowledge of psychology, moral distress, moral injury, cultural differences and ethics to provide consultation and training to medical and mental health professionals, humanitarian aid workers and anyone who is in the business of helping others. She draws from her Buddhist upbringing and utilizes a mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) approach with her clients. Dr. Diep especially enjoys working with folks who identify as empaths or Highly Sensitive People (HSPs).
